School of Psychology Member Profile

Dr Michele Luke

Research Fellow/Teaching Fellow

Biography

I'm originally from CA, but I have spent the majority of my adult life outside of the US.  Although I obtained my undergraduate degree from the University of California at Berkeley, I spent one year studying at the University of British Columbia.  In 1998, moved to the United Kingdom to pursue a PhD at Cardiff University.  In 2002, I moved to Southampton to take my current post.

Duties

I am a member of the Centre for Research on Self and Identity and the Social and Personality Psychology Research Group.

Teaching Activities

I am the co-ordinator for Psych 2019 (Research Methods and Data Analysis III).  I also supervise clinical trainees.

Research Interests

My research interests lie within the realm of self and identity. With Professor Constantine Sedikides I am examining how people respond to various kinds of feedback about themselves. With Constantine Sedikides and Kathy Carnelley I am conducting research on how people view themselves and others in close relationships. In addition, I am currently following up my Ph.D. research (conducted at Cardiff University with Greg Maio), where I examine the consequences of holding either positive or negative attitudes toward human beings.
